Our Governors
The role of the governing body Is to support and challenge the Federation in its efforts to improve the learning experiences and the progress of its pupils. We do this by:
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
Holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and;
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The governing body is part of, and works closely with the Head teacher and the rest of executive leadership team. Some governors are appointed i.e. Local Authority, co-opted and associate and some are elected i.e. Parent and Staff.
We use a committee structure to monitor and challenge many aspects of the Federations performance. Membership of these groups and their terms of reference are determined annually. The chair for each committee is elected by its members.
Governor monitoring visits take place throughout the year. The purpose of these visits is for governors to gain an overview of how the school is doing, to monitor progress ensuring the school is on track to meet its targets and to follow up on any issues raised at previous visits.
Governors also develop ratify and implement a range of statutory and non-statutory policies in the school.
Governors are volunteers and as such and are not paid for their work. Where relevant, governors are entitled to a reasonable amount of time off work to carry out their governor role. Federation governing body meetings are mainly held in the evening.
