Our Federation
The Windmill Primary Federation currently has 414 pupils on roll across four schools which make it one of the biggest primary organisations in West Norfolk.
The four schools range in size from very small at Walpole Highway, with just 52 pupils, to medium sized with one form entry and 208 pupils at West Walton. Between the two in size, are Tilney St Lawrence with 89 pupils and Terrington St John with 65.
The schools are geographically close to each other being 4.9 miles between the two furthest apart. The schools work closely together and are led by an Executive Headteacher supported by a wider leadership team of Heads of Schools, who are ‘based’ in each of the four schools and a single Governing Body.
As a Federation we are able to work closely together as one staff to share best practice and allow for effective delegated leadership. This includes curriculum leadership responsibilities for individual subjects whereby a subject lead will work on improving provision in all schools whilst having a key teaching responsibility in one. Working together in this way also allows us to create a bespoke pastoral team which includes significant support for our children and where needed, parents too.
Our pupils benefit from our collective working as being in schools in our Federation they have regular opportunities to work together on larger projects and events and crucially for those in our smallest schools, to widen their circle of friendships.
We are very proud of our schools and our Federation and aim to make each one the very best school it can possibly be!
